MANILA – A man was arrested after he snatched the gun of a security guard in Quezon City Monday morning.
The suspect, identified as Michael Trasarez, snatched the gun of Philtranco bus station security guard Ibrahem Alabuddin at around 6 a.m.
Alabuddin said he was busy making records of bus arrivals at the terminal.
Another security guard ran after Trasarez but failed to catch the suspect.
Four policemen later spotted Trasarez at the corner of P. Tuazon Boulevard and Epifanio delos Santos Avenue (EDSA).
Police managed to corner Trasarez in Santolan area. The suspect fired shots using the stolen gun but did not hit anyone.
Outnumbered and already out of ammunition, Trasarez eventually yielded to authorities while on EDSA's center island.
The suspect did not state any reason for snatching the gun. He claimed he was a former member of the New People's Army in Agusan del Sur.
Police said Trasarez, whom they suspect to be high on drugs when he snatched the gun, is facing robbery and frustrated homicide charges. – report from Carolyn Bonquin, ABS-CBN News
