MANILA – Two people were hurt in a fire which razed a house in Carmel Subd., Brgy Bahay Toro, Quezon City on Saturday, reports said.

Supt. Jesus Fernandez, Quezon City fire marshal, identified the wounded as Rafael Magsaysay, 52, who suffered 2nd degree burns in his arms and feet; and fire volunteer Emar Mendoza, who was wounded when he tried to enter the burning house. They were taken to the East Avenue Medical Center for treatment.

According to firemen, the blaze started at 5:15 p.m. at the garage of the house owned by Marilen Magsaysay. The fire left P3 million in damage, Magsaysay estimated.

Firefighters put out the blaze, which reached 3rd alarm, around 6:18 p.m.

Authorities are now investigating the source of the fire.

Meanwhile, a 9-door apartment was also razed by fire, which reached fourth alarm, in Brgy. Socorro, also in Quezon City.

The fire, Fernandez said, started around 3 p.m. and was declared out at 4 p.m. The apartment was owned by one Mirriam Limchoco.

According to Fernandez, the daughter of an occupant was seen playing with a candle prior to the incident, which may have caused the fire.

Around 30 families were affected by the blaze, which damaged about P200,000 in properties.
