MANILA -- A woman died after she was accidentally shot by a man near a bus terminal in Caloocan City, police said Wednesday.

The victim was identified as Rebecca Safelino, 62, from Calumpit, Bulacan.

Based on initial investigation, a certain John Mark Navarro asked assistance from the police, saying that his sister's mobile phone was stolen in Olongapo.

He added that he sent a message to his sister's phone number, and told the alleged thief identified as Elmer Orcano that he will buy the mobile phone. He also instructed Orcano to meet him outside the terminal.

Upon arrival, Orcano allegedly panicked when he saw Navarro with policemen, causing him to indiscriminately fire his gun.

Safelino was inside a bus, that was entering the terminal, when Orcano fired.

She stood up and peered outside to look at the commotion when a bullet from Orcano's gun accidentally hit her in the neck.

Orcano, who was also shot by police, has been arrested. - report from Zandro Ochona, DZMM
