MANILA -- The Bureau of Customs on Thursday confiscated 100 pieces of USD 100 bills hidden inside a magazine and placed inside a brown envelope.
The parcel came from a certain Jon Estill from Pennsylvania, USA and is addressed to Roy Lopez of Customs Bonded Warehouse 31 of the International Cargo Terminal near the Ninoy Aquino International Airport Terminal 1 (NAIA-1).
Corazon Mansueto, a Customs examiner, discovered the money after she became suspicious and opened the parcel.
The recovered amount is worth almost P500,000.
Based on investigation, the lifestyle magazine is worth $2 but the sender paid $125 to the forwarding company, which means that the parcel is heavy.
The seized bills were sent to the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP). -- report from Zhander Cayabyab, dzMM
