MANILA – Inmates at the Manila City Jail on Saturday received free legal services from the Public Attorney’s Office, to help speed up the resolution of their cases.

According to Jail Inspector Rommel Castro, the legal assistance will help in decongesting the city jail, which presently houses around 3,000 inmates.

The jail is only supposed to accommodate 1,000 inmates, it was learned.

Apart from the paralegal assistance, the PAO also conducted a medical and dental mission for the inmates and distributed free eyeglasses.

"Ito'y palagi naming ginagawa bilang tulong na sa mga inmates," a PAO representative said.

After the Manila City Jail, the PAO then visited the Manila Youth Reception Center where they also conducted free medical and legal services.

The youth also received clothes and slippers from the PAO.
