MANILA -- Seven men on board four motorcycles ambushed a trader's vehicle in Quezon City Thursday night, killing the businessman's driver, reports said.
The ambush was captured on CCTV, reports said.
"Tim", the businessman, recounted to police that he and his driver Basco Ocampo were along Dapitan corner Kanlaon Street in Barangay Sta. Teresita, Quezon City when two motorcycles tried to block their way.
Sensing trouble, the driver moved on, but was trailed by three motorcycles. One of the occupants then fired a shot at the vehicle. At this point, another motorcycle joined the other three.
"Tumakbo kasi kami e. Sabi ko itakbo niya. Ngayon pagtakbo kami sumabay na pumutok," Tim said.
Ocampo, who was hit at this point, lost control of the wheel and hit a nearby pick-up truck.
Passersby rushed to help, prompting the suspects to flee.
"Hindi na nakalapit dahil nagtakbuhan ang mga suspek... lumapit ang mga tao," Insp. Elmer Monsalbe, chief, Homicide Section of QCPD, said.
Initial investigations by the QCPD Criminal Investigation and Detection Unit revealed that the suspects were wearing police uniforms.
"Bale merong nasa harapan, merong nasa gilid, nasa likod," Monsalbe noted.
Meanwhile, the businessman told police he has been receiving death threats since 2010.
"May threat sa akin. Pwede negosyo, pwedeng personal," he said.
The police are now conducting follow-up operations to identify the suspects.
