MANILA, Philippines – A local court has allowed four Filipinos, charged in the killing of retired US Marine George Anikow in Makati last year, to post bail.

Clerk of Court Jaime Luy of the Makati Regional Trial Court Branch 59 said Juan Alfonso Abastillas, 24; Crispin dela Paz, 28; Osric Cabrera, 27; and Galicano Datu III, 22, were allowed to post bail of P300,000 each.

This after the court lowered the murder charges to homicide, a bailable offense.

Anikow was stabbed to death following a brawl between him and the respondents at Rockwell Drive corner Kalayaan Avenue, Makati City at 4 a.m. last November 24.

The incident was captured by a closed-circuit television camera.

The US embassy had condemned the killing. It had confirmed that Anikow was a member of the US mission to the Philippines and a husband of an embassy staff member. – report from Zhander Cayabyab, dzMM
