MANILA - Where's Jovito Palparan?
This is the question being asked by parents of missing University of the Philippines students Karen Empeño and Sherlyn Cadapan nearly eight years after they were allegedly abducted.
The parents questioned the government's drive to locate Palparan, noting that it has been two years since a local court issued a warrant for his arrest.
"Mahigit dalawang taon na mula nang ilabas ng korte ang warrant of arrest kay Palparan ngunit hindi pa rin nahuli o HINUHULI si Ret. Gen. Jovito Palparan. Ano ang kanilang nagawa? Kinakanlong si Palparan?" they asked.
Palparan is being tagged as the mastermind in the abductions of the two activists. He has also been dubbed "The Butcher" by human rights groups who accuse him of extrajudicial killings.
Linda Cadapan and Concepcion Empeño said it has been nearly eight years since their daughters were taken. They also said the case at the Malolos regional trial court has been dragging on for years.
The two lashed out at the military's supposed delaying tactics in presenting two other officers accused in the case.
The two officers also remain in military custody, instead of a regular detention facility despite facing criminal charges.
