MANILA -- A man accused of killing his own uncle and cousin in Malabon City surrendered to authorities on Saturday morning.

Aries Santos, a suspect in the killing of his uncle Felizardo Coralde Jr. and his cousin Albert, was convinced by his father to surrender to Mayor Antolin Aquino Oreta III.

Felizardo, 46, and Albert, 19, were found with their necks slashed inside their room at the second floor of their house in Barangay Ibaba, Malabon City last Wednesday.

Speaking to radio dzMM, Ariel Santos said his son went into hiding in Batangas after the incident.

He said his son admitted robbing the victims but denied killing them.

"Malapit yan [sa mga biktima]. Kami-kami ang magkakapitbahay, wala naman kaming samaan ng loob, walang dahilan para siya ang pagbintangan," the older Santos said.

The suspect claimed that Anthony Sernechez, the other suspect who surrendered last Thursday, was the one who killed the Coraldes.

Santos said he already left the victims' house after he was able to get their cash and gadgets.

But Sernechez, who wanted to get more items from the house, stayed behind.

He said it was only the following day when he found out that his uncle and cousin had been killed.

Sernechez, for his part, had also denied killing the victims, saying what he only did was tie them up. -- Report from Dexter Ganibe, dzMM
