MANILA – A Hong Kong national was arrested at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport after being caught with undeclared cash amounting to HK$6 million.

Willie Tolentino, Customs Enforcement and Security Service director, said Xi Lok Lee was caught with HK$6 million (P34,806,411 in current exchange rates) by a Customs examiner upon his arrival Thursday evening.

"Nang ibiingay ang dokumento nagkaroon siya ng suspetsa na mayroon siyang dala-dalang ilegal na bagay. Nung buksan itong bag na dala-dala nakita ang pera. Hindi niya ito idineclare," Tolentino told radio dzMM.

Tolentino said by not declaring the cash, Xi violated the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas Circular No. 308 which states that "any person who brings into or out of the Philippines foreign currency in excess of US$10,000 or its equivalent is required to declare the same in writing and to furnish information on the source and purpose of the transport of such currency." – report from Dexter Ganibe, dzMM
