MANILA, Philippines - Robert Blair Carabuena, a tobacco firm executive who was caught on video slapping a traffic enforcer, is facing arrest for failing to appear at his arraignment, a radio dzMM report said Thursday.

Judge Juris Dilinila-Callanta of the Quezon City Metropolitan Trial Court Branch 42 ordered Carabuena's arrest for failing to appear in his arraignment for direct assault of a person in authority. A viral video earlier showed Carabuena berating and slapping Metro Manila Development Authority traffic enforcer Saturnino Fabros last year.

The report said Carabuena could not appear before the court due to illness while his lawyer was unable to attend due to conflict of schedule.

The Carabuena camp asked that the arraignment be reset but the court refused, saying there was no no legal basis to postpone the arraignment.

Aside from the arrest order, the judge also ordered Carabuena's bail raised to P24,000. Callanta also ordered Carabuena to explain why he failed to appear before the court.

Carabuena's arraignment has been reset to March 7, 8 a.m. Report by Johnson Manabat, radio DZMM
