Suspect in Maguindanao massacre commits suicide in prison
MANILA, Philippines – A suspect in the 2009 Maguindanao massacre committed suicide by jumping off the roof of a jail in Taguig City Monday, a police official said.
Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP) Director Rosendo Dial said Police Officer 2 Hernanie Decipulo jumped off the 4th floor of a building in Camp Bagong Diwa, Taguig City Monday afternoon.
Dial said Decipulo had just talked to his wife when he suddenly left and jumped off the building.
“Yung inmate daw was talking with his wife on 3 o' clock up to 4 o' clock and he was doing a prayer. And then nagpaalam, nagsabi lang sa misis niya na mauna na daw siya. The wife was thinking nagbibiro ang asawa, [but] he ran doon sa gilid ng building at biglang tumalon," Dial told ANC.
Decipulo was rushed to Sabili Hospital in Bicutan, Taguig where he died.
Authorities do not know what pushed Decipulo to end his life.
Dial, however, said guards noted that Decipulo had been depressed in the past 3 days.
Decipulo was detained for his alleged participation in the Maguindanao massacre in 2009, where 57 individuals were killed.
He allegedly was among the policemen who blocked the convoy of then candidate and now Maguindanao Governor Ismael Mangudadatu. – with a report from Abner Mercado, ABS-CBN News
