MANILA -- A demolition team from the Quezon City government and the National Housing Authority (NHA) have cleared the shanties built by informal settlers on the center island of Agham Road last Tuesday.

The shanties were built on the center island by residents of Sitio San Roque after their houses were demolished last week.

The clearing operation started at around 10 a.m. Tuesday and lasted for almost two hours.

Although it was relatively peaceful, some residents and members of the demolition team were involved in an argument.

Most of the residents were brought to their relocation site in Montalban, Rizal. Some clothes were left hanging on tree branches.

Some residents claim that the NHA and the city government promised yesterday to give them houses in Montalban, but they found out today that they were not included in the list of those who will be given houses.

They added that they will go to the NHA office to ask for relocation. -- report from Johnson Manabat, dzMM
