MANILA – The camp of television host-actor Vhong is now working on building other pieces of evidence in the controversial mauling incident involving businessman Cedric Lee and model Deniece Cornejo last January 22.
Speaking to ABS-CBN's "Umagang Kay Ganda," Atty. Alma Mallonga said among the pieces of evidence being gathered is the supposed exchanges of text messages between Navarro and Cornejo.
"It might be very difficult without an order pero meron kaming pasabi, meron kaming magiging request… ang malinaw sa amin, this is not something a telco will normally do without a court order, kasi parang invasion of privacy, magkakaroon ng mga ganoong concern," Mallonga said.
Navarro has accused Lee and 6 others of beating him up at Cornejo's condo unit last January 22 before turning him over to the police. Cornejo, however, accused Navarro of trying to rape her before he was stopped by Lee and company.
The National Bureau of Investigation said CCTV footage taken from the condo seemed to bolster Navarro's claim that no rape occurred since Cornejo was already out of the building when Lee arrived.
Navarro earlier told Buzz ng Bayan that he had received several text messages from Cornejo, inviting him to come to her condo on January 22. He said Cornejo's messages were later deleted by Lee even as he was being beaten up.
Mallonga said Navarro's cellphone had been turned over to the National Bureau of Investigation in an effort to retrieve the messages which were allegedly deleted by Lee.
The lawyer said the camp of Cornejo and Lee is now trying to muddle the issue after closed-ciruit television (CCTV) footage were released showing their actions before the mauling incident.
"Hindi lang naman ang CCTV footage eh, beyond that maraming ibang ebidensya. Gravy na lang itong tatawagin. We are very confident that the truth will come out," she said.
Responding to Cornejo's allegation that it is always Navarro's side that is always being heard, Mallonga said: "Kaya nilalabas ang panig ni Vhong kasi it resonates the truth. It carries its own steam eh."
