MANILA, Philippines – (UPDATE) A truck carrying 25 tons of scrap metal rammed into four Meralco posts at Ortigas Avenue Extension near Barangay Beverly Hills in Antipolo City early Sunday morning, causing power outage in the area.

Joey Marco of the City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council said the truck, bearing plate number TUE 208, crashed into the Meralco electric posts at around 4:30 a.m.

It took about six hours before the felled posts were removed from the street, which also caused heavy traffic in the area.

Ortigas Avenue Extension is now passable, but the truck is still stuck at the side of the road.

According to initial investigations, the truck was coming from Antipolo on its way to Cainta, when the accident occurred.

Meralco is now replacing the electric posts and the power is expected to return in the affected areas by noon. -- Report from Dexter Ganibe, DZMM
