MANILA, Philippines – After the recent SM Megamall robbery, police will now monitor shoppers buying hammers and pipe wrenches in hardware stores.
National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) Chief Leonardo Espina, who visited SM Megamall on Friday, said the tools are now considered as potential weapons of robbers.
Espina noted that shoppers should not be alarmed of the heightened security presence in malls.
Last Saturday, a group of men robbed a jewelry store in SM Megamall by breaking glass cases using a pipe wrench.
The wrench was allegedly bought inside a hardware store in the mall.
Police have yet to arrest the suspects, who were identified as Crisolito Unito, Alex Damalen, Nasrudin Andal and Tho Mangulamas. -- Report from Zhander Cayabyab, dzMM
