Owner of motorcycle used in Western Union robbery identified

MANILA, Philippines - Police have identified the owner of one of the motorcycles allegedly used as a getaway vehicle in a robbery incident in a Western Union branch in Sucat, Parañaque last Tuesday.

Personnel of the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) and Parañaque police identified the owner of the Suzuki motorcycle with plate number WQ 3132 as 32-year-old Melvin Labastina, a resident of Molino 7, Bacoor, Cavite City.

He was nabbed by the police at 3:20 p.m. on Thursday.

Authorities said the motorcycle was positively identified by Jemelito Diaz, a security guard of the Western Union branch along Lopez Avenue.

Labastida was also positively identified by eyewitness Riza Diaz.

Labastida and his motorcycle are now under custody of the CIDG and police authorities.

Police said documents are now being prepared for the inquest proceedings of Labastida at a Parañaque Regional Trial Court.

At least 6 armed men succeeded in filching over P60,000 from the Western Union branch.

Four of the suspects who were acting as lookouts fired shots at the roving policemen during the incident.

No one was reported injured in the incident.
