MANILA, Philippines – Suspected members of "Acetylene Gang" broke into a branch of Cebuana Lhuillier pawnshop in Valenzuela City before dawn Wednesday.

Sr. Supt. Roderick Armamento, Valenzuela City police chief, said at least four suspects bore a hole into the back wall of the pawnshop located along McArthur Highway in Barangay Dalandan between 1 and 4 a.m.

Armamento said the suspects were able to enter the pawnshop after it leased an apartment beside it just last Monday.

The lessor said the suspects gave him three months worth of rent in advance. He said he was not able to get the names of the suspects.

It was not yet established whether the suspects were able to cart away valuable items from the pawnshop.

The police also found a bolt cutter inside the pawnshop.

A footage from the pawnshop's surveillance camera showed the suspects trying to open the pawnshop's vault. However, they failed to open it.

The pawnshop management is now conducting an inventory to determine if the suspects were able to cart away items. – report from Johnson Manabat, dzMM
