SM: Business as usual after heist
MANILA, Philippines – The management of SM Supermalls assured that everything is back to normal following the robbery incident inside the SM Megamall in Mandaluyong City on Saturday evening.
Annie Garcia, SM Supermalls president, said SM Megamall went back to its normal operations shortly after the police went in to probe the robbery at the F&C Jewelry Store located at the mall’s Building B.
“The mall is open, the department store is open,” said Garcia in an interview on ANC “Headlines”.
Garcia said the suspects used a hammer to smash the store’s showcase panel.
“They scooped [the jewelry] out and they walked away. We don't have an estimate as of this moment. But we just like to show the public is everything is under control here in Megamall.”
Garcia could not say how many suspects were involved but said that they are currently reviewing all their closed-circuit television (CCTV) footages of both the mall and the department store area.
She also assured that they will be cooperating with the police.
Garcia would not say if the suspects were armed but admitted that a gunshot was fired inside the mal premises.
“I was told that there was one gunshot that was fired, but nobody was hurt,” she said.
Garcia said it was an unfortunate that the incident took place even with their security in place.
“We have managed to keep our malls very safe for most of the operating hours, this is an unfortunate incident but we'd like to assure the public that we have security in Megamall and that they're ably assisted by the technology that is all around, both in the mall and even in the department store.”
“It is important that that there is no casualty… we have a shattered glass from the showcase and that's it.”
