MANILA – The police are looking into politics as one of the possible motives behind the killing of Erlinda Domingo in Quezon City on Tuesday evening.

Supt. Pedro Sanchez, chief of Quezon City Police District – Station 2, said that while they are not dismissing other motives, the political angle seems to hold the most weight.

Domingo was seeking a third term as mayor of Maconacon in Isabela province in the May 2013 elections under the Nationalist People's Coalition.

Sanchez said initial investigation showed that the three arrested suspects were hired guns.

One of the suspects was identified as Christian Pahinado. He was arrested based on the tip of a witness.

The two other suspects, a male and a female, were arrested in separate pursuit operations in Barangay Commonwealth and Culiat Compound in Tandang Sora. Their identities were still being withheld.

No known enemy

Meanwhile, Isabela Vice Governor Rodolfo Albano III said Domingo had no known enemy in her town.

However, Albano noted that Domingo had a strong support base in Maconacon.

"Hindi kasi siya matalo eh. She's very strong in that area,"Albano told ANC.

"Actually even the former mayor was depending on her supporters eh, so talagang malakas," he added, referring to the late Maconacon Mayor Francisco Talosig.
