MANILA, Philippines (2nd UPDATE) – An explosion rocked a vacant lot in Salcedo Village, Makati City Monday afternoon, destroying glass panels and some cars in the area.

The blast occurred along H.V. Dela Costa Street, beside Salcedo Park, past 2 p.m.

Makati police chief Superintendent Jaime Santos said no casualties were reported in the incident.

“No one was reported injured... Ang importante walang nasaktan, kahit malakas siya, ‘yun ang importante doon,” Santos said.

The area was cordoned off while investigation is ongoing. Bomb-sniffing dogs were also deployed in the area, but no other explosives were found.

The explosion was so strong that the glass panels of some business establishments in the area were shattered.

The explosion also damaged parked cars and walls of some structures in the area.

Santos could not give details on the incident, since the investigation is ongoing.

He added no group has claimed responsibility for the explosion.

Nevertheless, he said there should be no cause for people to panic.

“There’s no cause for any alarm, because no one was reported injured, the incident happened on a holiday, and the place, exact place [where the explosive was placed was] a vacant lot of H.V. Dela Costa,” Santos said. “It’s not designed to inflict injury.”

Santos said Explosive Ordnance Divison and Scene of the Crime Operatives personnel are now in the area to conduct a post-blast investigation.

The team is collecting fragments from the explosive for its reconstruction.
