MANILA, Philippines – The Metro Rail Transit (MRT) will be launching a new monitoring system in its 13 stations.
Three cameras have been set up in each of the 13 MRT stations to feed live video on the situation in all areas to the office of the MRT.
According to MRT general manager Al Vitangcol III, this is the first in Asia because commuters with computers, smartphones or androids can click on the MRT’s website and see for themselves real time what is happening in every station.
The goal is to help commuters decide which station to take and help management monitor the heavy volume of commuters.
For instance, if there are a lot of commuters in the Quezon Blvd. area, MRT management can decide to send a "skipping train" to the area to accommodate the large number of commuters.
