MANILA – Following the recent revocation of the franchise of Don Mariano Transit by the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB), netizens weighed in on other ways to ensure the safety of bus passengers.
Last Tuesday, January 14, TV Patrol asked through their social media accounts the question “Bukod sa pagbawi sa prangkisa ng nagkamaling operator, paano pa matitiyak ang kaligtasan ng mga pasahero?”
The comments ranged from suggestions of renewed legislation on wages and precautionary tips for commuters, to alternate public transportation and new road regulations that should be imposed.
Abraham Bormate (@abe_bormate) said that speed limiters should be installed and that salaries of bus drivers should be fixed.
“Mainam po yun speed limiter na gawing mandatory sa mga bus. Fixed salary + profit sharing kapag lumampas napo sa boundary.”
Eric Garbo (@ericbgarbo) posed a similar suggestion, adding that fixing proper compensation could be a way to fix the hasty driving of buses on the road.
“Gawing minimum wage 'yang mga bus drivers. Beyond that 8hrs, OT with pay nang sa ganun hindi maging buwakaw sa pasahero.”
Sweetlife (@JhazzyMatondo) called on the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) to implement stricter rules against overspeeding.
“Kelangan din maghigpit ng @MMDA at lahat ng traffic enforcers sa overspeeding policy. Kailangan ipenalize ang di makakasunod.”
Over on Facebook, Ramil Ferrer said that bus operations must be transferred to the government to ensure more organized and regulated trips.
“Gawin government-owned ang mga buses sa Metro Manila and provincial na biyahe. Magkakaroon ng proper bus stops, may specific time ang arrival and departures, centralized ang tickets na punch-in lang sa bus na masasakyan. Ang benefits nito less accidents and magkakaroon ng disiplina (ang) tao gumamit ng tamang sakayan at disiplina sa tamang oras.”
Ruby Miran said the safety and health of passengers should be the priority of all bus companies. He said the LTFRB made the right move in revoking the franchise of bus operators who have not been putting their passengers first.
“Una sa lahat health and safety sa lahat ng kompanya… at tama lang ang ginawa ng LTFRB kasi hawak ang buhay ng mga pasahero sa lahat na mga bus... dapat talaga check-up lahat ng bus na good condition bago mamasada.”
