MANILA -- The local government of Quezon City on Tuesday implemented a new ordinance enforcing a 20 kilometers per hour speed limit inside all subdivisions and other selected places.
Quezon City Mayor Herbert Bautista signed City Ordinance Number 2244, implementing a speed limit inside all subdivisions and selected places such as blind corners, school zones and church zones to prevent vehicular accidents.
The new ordinance is also in accordance to the city's Land Transportation and Traffic Code, as well as the Traffic Management Code.
Those who will be caught violating the ordinance will be penalized with one-day community service and P1,000 fine for the first offence.
Second-time violators will be penalized with two-day community service and P2,000 fine.
For the third and succeeding violations, violators will be penalized with one week community service and a fine of P5,000.
If the violation leads to damage to property or death, the violator will be given a penalty of P10,000 fine and one week community service, as well as criminal charges. -- with a report from Robert Mano, dzMM
