MANILA, Philippines – Several roads and footbridges in Quezon City were cleared of vendors on Tuesday in a joint operation by the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA), Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) and the Quezon City Department of Public Order and Safety.

Authorities conducted the clearing operations in Cubao, Nepa Q-Mart, East Avenue, Philcoa, Luzon Avenue, and Muñoz Market, where vendors occupy sidewalks and footbridges.

Rodolfo Figueroa, team leader of the MMDA Sidewalk Clearing Operations Group, said the vendors were allowed to sell their products during the Christmas season to help them in their business.

However, Figueroa said they were only given until January 6 to occupy the public areas.

The vendors complied with authorities and vacated the areas without violence. -- Report from Maan Macapagal, ABS-CBN News
