MANILA -- The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) impounded more than ten buses in Tumana, Marikina City on Monday.

According to MMDA Chairman Francis Tolentino, they impounded the buses as these were out-of-line.

The buses allegedly refused to use the Southwest Integrated Provincial Transport Terminal in Coastal Mall, Parañaque City and instead had trips in Marikina City.

They showed the special permit they received from the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) to justify their trips.

However, Tolentino explained that the permit is only valid until January 6, giving them the chance to have additional trips during the holiday season.

The impounded buses will not stay in the impounding area for three months as penalty.

Since January 7, the MMDA has apprehended more than 30 buses which were still using the expired special permit from LTFRB. -- with a report from Dennis Datu, dzMM
