MANILA (UPDATE) – A fire hit a branch of MC Home Depot in Bonifacio Global City before dawn on Monday.
The fire started at around 2 a.m. inside the establishment, located along 32nd Street of the commercial district. It reached the fifth alarm and was declared out past 4 a.m.
No one was reported injured in the fire.
The fluctuating power supply in the area was earlier being looked into as the cause of the fire.
Manila Electric Co. (Meralco), however, disputed the claim, saying "MC Home Depot did not experience any power interruption as it is connected to another substation. It was not in any way affected by the reported interruption at BGC."
"Power interruptions do not cause fires. Establishments have protection/safety facilities in place as required by the Philippine Electrical Code," Meralco added.
The fire destroyed at least P10 million worth of goods and property. – report from Jerome Lantin, ABS-CBN News
