MANILA, Philippines – Family and friends of slain car dealer Venson Evangelista are still hopeful that the 3 suspects in the murder, who remain at large a year after the crime, will be apprehended.
Evangelista's body was found in Cabanatuan City after being murdered by a carjacking group.
At a mass marking Evangelista's first death anniversary, his father Boy said they are hoping that all suspects will be apprehended within the year.
"Sa lahat ng police agencies and others concerned, sana magawan nila agad ng paraan," he said.
The older Evangelista also said that although the family is still in pain, they believe their son did not die in vain as car theft cases have decreased in 2011. However, he called on lawmakers and local government units (LGU) to include carjacking on the list of heinous crimes and impose stiffer penalties to offenders.
"Dapat magkaroon ng pagbabago. Sana ‘yung mga LGUs magkaroon ng funding para makabili ng CCTV para ma-deter nila ang mga krimen."
Meanwhile, priest Fr. Robert Reyes said that Evangelista's first death anniversary does not mark the end of mourning but rather the beginning of a fight against carjacking and the apprehension of the suspects.
"Sana ‘yung kaso ay magtuluy-tuloy na para magkaron ng malinaw na katapusan at hustisya ang pagpatay kay Venson," said Reyes.
