MANILA -- At least 17 snatchers and thieves who preyed on devotees attending the feast of the Black Nazarene in Manila were arrested by police on Thursday.
In an interview with DZMM, police Chief Inspector Erwin Margarejo said 8 cases of pickpockets and "salisi" were reported at the Manila Police District Station 5 alone.
In Plaza Miranda, policemen from MPD Station 3 arrested 6 other thieves, while two were detained at the Balbosa Police Community Precinct after they were apprehended on Alvarez Street.
Even members of the press and media personnel fell prey to these pickpockets.
An ABS-CBN cameraman lost his cellphone to a pickpocket while covering the event in Quiapo.
There were other cases that have not been reported to the police.
Manila Vice-Mayor Isko Moreno appealed to all victims to report their cases to the police so they can look for the perpetrators.
