MANILA, Philippines – A “colorum” taxi cab was apprehended by authorities in Langaray, Caloocan City Wednesday night.

The HPG Transport taxi was flagged down in a checkpoint after police spotted that the plate number did not match the vehicle’s model type.

When they examined the vehicle’s registration, police discovered that the plate number was a fake.

They also found out that the taxi was operating without a legitimate franchise.

The taxi’s owner, Luz Amanta Blongaita, admitted that a fixer from the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board provided the fake documents and plates.

She claimed that she paid the fixer P100,000.

The driver of the colorum Hyundai Accent taxi Marcelo Padilla admitted that he knew of the illegal activity.

Blongaita said she was forced to operate illegally after she was denied to acquire a legitimate franchise.

The vehicle has been turned over to the Philippine National Police Highway Patrol Group.

Police, meanwhile, advised commuters to always ask for a receipt from the driver when riding a taxi. -- Report from Francis Faulve, ABS-CBN News
