QUEZON CITY, Philippines - Thieves broke into the house of singer Imelda Papin in Quezon City early Monday morning, stealing at least P500,000 worth of cash and valuables.

Papin's family members woke up with their house in North Fairview Park in a mess.

The thieves stole money, jewelry, watches, bags laptops, iPads, and cellphones, according to the singer's family.

Papin's personal assistant, Fely Antonio, said she did not notice anything unusual before they slept at around 2:40 a.m.

Their security guard, driver, and house helper said they were also caught unaware.

They found out about the theft at around 6 a.m. after noticing the mess inside the house's master's bedroom where Antonio and a grandchild of Papin sleep.

Thieves also broke into another room used by Papin's daughter Maffie and her husband.

Police said the thieves entered the rooms by removing the aircon grills.

Investigators believe that a small child was used to enter the holes.

Authorities have not identified the suspects in the case but said everyone in the house will undergo investigation.

Police are looking into the possibility that the thieves used a "sleeping spray" to prevent their victims from waking up.

The singer's sibling, Councilor Babi Papin, said it was the third theft case in their subdivision since last year.

The other victims were also asleep when thieves broke into their houses.

Police are now preparing carthographic sketches of several people who were seen prowling around the neighborhood in the past few days.

Papin, who is in Los Angeles for a show, has been informed of the incident.

She expressed concern for the safety of her family. - report from Niko Baua, ABS-CBN News
