MANILA, Philippines -- The suspect in the fatal shooting of a five-year-old boy in Mandaluyong City was arrested on Tuesday night, police said.
Suspect Emmanuel Janabon was arrested by operatives of Mandaluyong City Police over the death of Rangelo Nimer in Welfareville Compound, Barangay Addition Hills from a "sumpak" or an improvised gun during the New Year's eve celebrations.
Initial investigation showed that Nimer was outside his house when the suspect, who was walking on the street while holding his gun, accidentally fired shots at the victim.
Janabon said he was sorry for what happened and insisted it was an accident.
However, the father of the victim, Ryan, said he will be filing a homicide case against the suspect, who is now detained at the Mandaluyong Police headquarters.
The remains of Nimer, meanwhile, will be brought to Naic, Cavite where he will be buried. -- Reports from Zandro Ochona, dzMM; Abner Mercado, ABS-CBN News
