MANILA, Philippines – Former Chief Justice Renato Corona attended the last hearing of his tax evasion case at the Department of Justice (DOJ) on Friday, submitting a rejoinder before the investigating panel.

The preliminary investigation is now up for resolution, with the result expected this January.

Corona reasserted his innocence and maintained that the case against him is weak.

"Itong kasong ito hindi ito uubra sa korte eh. Pang propaganda lang talaga," he said.

Corona refused to answer any more questions from the media, and promptly left the DOJ with his wife, Mrs. Cristina Corona.

The couple, along with their daughter and son-in-law, are facing tax evasion charges because of an alleged misdeclaration of income. The panel said the family is liable for earnings amounting to some P150.67 million.

Corona was impeached as chief justice earlier this year. His alleged erroneous Statement of Assets, Liabilities, and Net worth (SALN) over the years was one of the issues that was discussed heatedly in the impeachment court.
