MANILA, Philippines - The Senate ended its plenary sessions on Wednesday and will take a yuletide break before the resumption of work on January 21, 2013.

It reported approving 87 of its own bills and 234 bills from the House of Representatives since the start of the third regular session in July 2012.

A total of 179 national and local bills have been signed into law since then.

Senate President Juan Ponce Enrile said they have been working hard to pass urgent measures designed to address the country’s economic difficulties and respond to the prevailing challenges in health, education, environmental protection, public safety and consumer protection.

The accomplishments include: the early passage of the P2.006-trillion national budget for the year 2013; and the sin tax and reproductive health measures.
