MANILA, Philippines - The Senate Committee on Foreign Affairs of the Commission on Appointments today deliberated on the nominations and ad interim appointment of several senior officials from the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA).

Among those nominated for ambassador are Elizabeth Buensuceso, Alex G. Chua, Sahid Glang, Domingo Lucenario, Lamberto Monsato, and Erlinda Basilio. Up for Ad Interim appointment is Leandro Lachica for Foreign Service Officer, Class 1.

The proceedings went by smoothly, with the senior officers virtually guaranteed confirmation by the Commission.

CA Chairperson Senator Miriam Santiago said they were most impressed with the Curriculum Vitae of Erlinda Basilio, who is holding a critical post as ambassador to China.

Santiago said they expected Basilio to continue the country's strong and unwavering position on disputed territories.

Basilio is a career officer who started out as a Foreign Service Officer Class IV in 1970.

Her diplomatic assignments include being ambassador to Sweden and Permanent Representative to the Philippine Mission to the United Nations in Geneva. She served as Assistant Secretary for Asia and Pacific Affairs and as DFA Undersecretary for Policy.
