Cops, soldiers cancel parties amid 'Pablo' tragedy
MANILA, Philippines – The Philippine National Police (PNP) and the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) will no longer hold their Christmas party this year in light of the recent devastation in Mindanao caused by Typhoon Pablo.
PNP spokesperson Chief Supt. Generoso Cerbo said the cancellation of all scheduled Christmas parties at all levels of the PNP was announced by PNP Chief Director General Nicanor Bartolome.
Bartolome also instructed all unit commanders to instead donate the funds to typhoon-affected families.
The PNP Press Corps and Defense Press Corps also cancelled their Christmas parties.
Typhoon Pablo caused massive damage in Davao Oriental and Compostela Valley, leaving at least 714 dead and 890 missing.
At least 116,404 people were also displaced and are now staying in 134 evacuation centers across Visayas and Mindanao. -- Report from Edwin Sevidal, dzMM
