MANILA, Philippines - Only the court can decide on former President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo's bid for an 18-day Christmas furlough in Pampanga, a Palace official said Saturday.
"Siguro po ang magiging Santa (who) can grant that plea of the former President would be sa Sandiganbayan po yata ito. Ay hindi, sa Pasay RTC," deputy Presidential spokesperson Abigail Valte said in an interview on Radyo ng Bayan.
She said the Palace does not have a hand in deciding on lawsuits involving Arroyo, who has been arrested in connection with the P366-million Philippine Charity Sweepstakes plunder case.
"'Yung mga huwes na po ang magmimistulang Santa, kung ibibigay po sa kanya 'yung kanyang pakiusap," Valte said.
She said the Palace is neither in favor nor opposing Arroyo's furlough bid.
"Either way wala naman po. Usually for most of the questions that involve 'yung mga motion po ng dating Pangulo sa kanyang mga kaso, we really leave it up to the discretion of the judge," she explained. - report from Willard Cheng, ABS-CBN News
