Pagadian mayor charged anew for syndicated estafa
MANILA, Philippines - Another complaint for syndicated estafa was filed against Pagadian City Mayor Samuel Co and several others in connection with the Aman Futures investment scam.
In her 3-page complaint with the Department of Justice (DOJ), Aman Futures investor Zaaliza Adiong claimed she invested, and was subsequently defrauded, P3.2 million between February to November of this year.
The investments were allegedly received by respondent Flornina D. Gerona, Pagadian City Treasurer, on behalf of Mayor Co.
"[S]he (Adiong) averred that Flornina D. Gerona, City Treasurer of Pagadian City, represented Samuel S. Co, Mayor of Pagadian City, in accepting investment for Aman," the complaint, endorsed by the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI), read.
The said representation was allegedly confirmed by the issuance of receipts corresponding to the payments by respondent Haide Sepada, an employee of Mayor Co.
The complaint also claimed that Co "tried to amicably settle the complainant (Adiong)" when Aman Futures' Ponzi scheme was discovered. The complaint stated that this "even made the claim of the complainant stronger that Mayor Co was indeed involved in the operation of Aman."
Also named respondents in the complaint are the following Aman Futures officers:
