MANILA, Philippines - An official of the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of the Philippines (CBCP) is calling for days of fasting and prayer against the reproductive health (RH) bill.
In a report from the CBCP News, Antipolo Bishop Gabriel Reyes said: “Let us pray and fast on Monday and the following days so that our lawmakers will not pass the bill.” Reyes is chairman of the CBCP Episcopal Commission on Family and Life.
This comes ahead of President Benigno Aquino III’s luncheon meeting on Monday with lawmakers, which some believe was in connection with the controversial bill.
“Let us beseech God to protect life, family, marriage and the youth in our country,” said Reyes.
On Saturday, CBCP Episcopal Commission on Family and Life executive secretary Fr. Melvin Castro asked for prayers for Senate President Juan Ponce Enrile after receiving reports that he may be ousted from his position because of his stance versus the bill.
“We beg you to pray (to) Our Lord through Our Lady to thwart all their plans. O Mary, save our country from danger. We are yours. Help us in this hour of need,” Castro asked.
