MANILA, Philippines - Senate President Juan Ponce Enrile said he will not vote for the Reproductive Health Bill even if it leads to his son, Cagayan Rep. Jack Enrile, losing in the 2013 senatorial election.
Enrile has been consistent in his opposition to the RH Bill, saying that the measure is not aimed at providing help to women's health but just a mechanism to control the population.
This is the first time that the older Enrile spoke of putting his son's ambition at stake over his stand against the RH Bill. The younger Enrile previously shared 3rd to 5th places in the Pulse Asia survey conducted last August 31 to September 7, 2012.
The Senate President said there are more important issues that this country needs to confront, like smuggling of rice, chicken, pork, vegetable oil, gasoline and cigarettes that directly affect the daily life of the people.
