MANILA, Philippines – “Don't forget Jesus Christ.”

This is the early Christmas message given by Manila Archbishop Luis Antonio Tagle, who arrived in Manila from Rome at around 11:30 a.m. on Thursday.

Tagle said although we are facing challenges, we should not lose our faith and wake up one morning thinking we can live without God.

Tagle was installed as cardinal by Pope Benedict XVI along with five other non-European clergy at the Vatican on Saturday. The 55-year-old Tagle is the second youngest cardinal in the world.

In a press conference upon his arrival, Tagle said the Pope told all the cardinals to deepen their teachings of the Catholic Church in their local churches.

The Pope also reminded the new cardinals about humility and the red robe, which symbolizes that they be ready to shed their blood for their faith.

Tagle said the Pope mentioned the Philippines a couple of times, saying the country is a very Catholic country.

The other cardinals also had kind words about the Philippines, said Tagle. -- Report from Gretchen Malalad, ABS-CBN News
