No orders to redeploy ships in Scarborough – Palace
MANILA, Philippines – There have been no orders from President Benigno Aquino to redeploy ships to the disputed Scarborough Shoal, deputy Presidential spokesperson Abigail Valte said on Tuesday.
"We've not been apprised by the President of any further action on that point,” she said.
Valte stressed that the Philippines continues to pursue a "rules-based approach" in seeking a resolution to the territorial dispute with China.
"Obviously, there will be a difference of opinion owing to the fact that we are on different sides of the fence with their country in terms of this particular issue… But we've always maintained that our approach to the dispute in the West Philippine Sea is a rules-based approach. Everything we have done has been in line with this rules-based approach, with regard to rules that are recognition internationally," she said, when asked to react about a reported statement from China that the Philippines has misinterpreted international law in asserting its claim.
Valte also said the government is helping to secure the residents and students in a school in the Kalayaan group of islands in Palawan.
"Mayroon po tayong regular deployment ng mga tao po natin doon. Kasi mayroon nga tayong bayan doon. And we make sure na nakakaabot naman po ‘yung services ng pamahalaan given the limitation,” she said.
