MANILA, Philippines – Presidential Adviser on the Peace Process Teresita "Ging" Deles congratulated Marvic Leonen on his appointment as Supreme Court associate justice.
In a statement, Deles said she believes Leonen will bring “exceptional leadership, integrity, and competence” to his new task.
“The Supreme Court gains a member with a deep understanding of the Constitution and our nation's historic journey to peace,” she added.
Deles also said she does not believe that Leonen’s appointment will have a negative effect on the peace process, but rather it is “a major gain in our continuing journey for peace and justice.”
She added that the Leonen’s replacement as chief negotiator in the peace talks will be announced soon. A recommendation will be submitted to President Benigno Aquino for his approval.
Malacañang announced Leonen’s appointment on Wednesday. The 49-year-old Leonen fills up the position vacated by Maria Lourdes Sereno, who was appointed Chief Justice last August.
