MANILA - Sen. Jinggoy Estrada on Friday said he is no longer running as a guest senatorial candidate of Sen. Manuel Villar’s Nacionalista Party (NP).
Estrada said he turned down the NP's offer to include him as guest candidate in its senatorial ticket to stop talks that he has turned his back on his father, former president Joseph Estrada, who is running for president under the Pwersa ng Masang Pilipino.
"Maraming nag-i-speculate na tinatalikuran ko na ang partido ng aking ama sa Pwersa ng Masang Pilipino kaya ginawa ko po ito (I did this because a lot of people are speculating that I am turning my back from my father's Pwersa ng Masang Pilipino)" Estrada said.
The move came after Estrada announced that he was withdrawing his signature from a resolution clearing Villar of any wrongdoing in the C-5 Road extension controversy.
The senator said other signatories of the resolution would have not signed the document, had they known it would be prematurely released.
He was scheduled to make a manifestation in Wednesday’s Senate session, but a lack of quorum prevented him from speaking out.
“I would have manifested that I would have to withdraw my signature from Senate Resolution 1472,” Estrada told reporters.
The resolution, signed by 12 senators, is absolving Villar of unethical conduct arising from his alleged pushing of the C-5 road extension project.
Estrada admitted being upset by speculations he cleared Villar in exchange for being a guest senatorial candidate of the NP.
“That is totally untrue. That has nothing to do with my signature with the rest of the resolution,” he said.
Estrada lamented the violation of the previous agreement to release the resolution only after the Senate has come up with the results of the Villar ethics case.
Asked whom did he have an agreement with, Estrada said it was “Senator Villar himself.”
Other signatories to the resolution were Villar, Aquilino Pimentel, Alan Peter Cayetano, Pia Cayetano, Lito Lapid, Gregorio Honasan II, Joker Arroyo, Miriam Defensor-Santiago, Ramon Revilla Jr., Francis Pangilinan, and Villar's runningmate Loren Legarda. – Report from Lynda Jumilla, ABS-CBN News

We should be careful on the plans of the Estrada's. Jinggoy and Erap are two human beings doesn't deserve to hold public office. Usap-usapan sa San Juan kapag 300K lang ang nakukuha ni Jinggoy sa PAGCOR noong time ni Erap sa Malacanang eh nagwawala.
Akala mo pa kung sino sila kapag meron camera. Daig pa ang diyos kung umasta sa mga tao.
