MANILA, Philippines – Around P11 million will be allotted for the participation of President Benigno Aquino III in an ASEAN summit in the Kingdom of Cambodia, Executive Secretary Paquito Ochoa Jr. said on Saturday.
The Palace said the estimated cost covers the 53-member delegation's chartered flight to Phnom Penh, accommodation, transportation, food, and other technical requirements.
The President is scheduled to leave for Phnom Penh Saturday night to attend the 21st ASEAN Summit and Related Summits from November 18 to 20.
He is set to meet with his counterparts from ASEAN and leaders of the East Asian Partners (EAS) at the summit to discuss relationships in East Asia.
"President Aquino's participation in the regional meeting reinforces our firm commitment to promote cooperation, not only in terms of economic development, but also in maintaining peace in the region and protecting and enhancing human rights," Ochoa said in a statement.
The President is also expected to discuss maritime security and cooperation in the West Philippine Sea, human rights and protection of migrants workers.
The delegation attending the summit includes Foreign Affairs Secretary Albert Del Rosario, Finance Secretary Cesar Purisima, Defense Secretary Voltaire Gazmin, Trade Secretary Gregory Domingo, Cabinet Secretary Jose Rene Almendras, PCOO Secretary Herminio Coloma Jr., and Socio-Economic Planning Secretary Arsenio Balisacan.
The Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) said the Leaders' Summit, dubbed "ASEAN: One Community, One Destiny", is expected to finalize the preparation for an ASEAN community by 2015.
