MANILA, Philippines - Senator Pia Cayetano criticized Senate President Juan Ponce Enrile for saying the reproductive health bill will take the backseat for now.
She said it is obvious that the Senate leadership is doing everything to quash the bill.
"Both the budget and the sin tax are priority all over other legislation," Enrile told reporters on Monday.
Cayetano, the bill’s co-sponsor, does not see any reason why the bill should not be tackled. She said there is enough time, since sessions are now an hour earlier.
In addition, instead of closing at 5:00 p.m., the Senate's sessions will also be extended up to 8:00 p.m.
Cayetano had already expressed dismay at the dilatory tactics being employed by her colleagues in the Senate.
Besides Enrile, Cayetano said another villain in the passage of the bill is Senator Ralph Recto. – from a report by Ruby Tayag, dzMM
