MANILA - The Volunteers Against Crime and Corruption (VACC) on Wednesday called Transportation Secretary Jun Abaya insensitive for supposedly downplaying the incidents of "tanim-bala" in the country's airports.
VACC member Arsenio "Boy" Evangelista stressed that the government should not belittle the issue, especially that the integrity of the Philippines as a nation is at stake.

Evangelista said the public needs to see the concerned government officials taking action to stop the extortion scheme rather than just merely presenting themselves in a press conference.

The VACC also called for the dismissal of officials found to be remiss in their duties, as well as the filing of appropriate criminal and administrative charges against them.
The group also urged victims to surface and report incidents of the tanim-bala scheme.
Speaking to reporters this morning, Abaya said reports of bullet-planting cases in the airports have been blown out of proportion, saying only a small number of passengers leaving the country have been caught carrying bullets.
Abaya also said there is no evidence to establish that a syndicate is operating in the airports.

"So far we have not established any facts to show any syndicate happening, planting but again we assure them that any evidence, any personnel involved we will throw the full books at them," he said. -- Report from Jeck Batallones, ABS-CBN News
