MANILA -- Senator Alan Peter Cayetano denied that he apologized to Atty. Jose "Judd" Roy III for voting for the impeachment of former Chief Justice Renato Corona.

Sen. Cayetano released a statement Monday after Atty. Roy claimed that the former apologized to him.

"For the record, no apology was made and none is forthcoming. I did not and will not apologize to anyone for voting to impeach the former chief justice, whom I believe, as I believed then, is guilty of amassing unexplained wealth," the senator added.

The senator admitted that he chanced upon Atty. Roy a few weeks ago, and that they did exchange pleasantries. However, he said that there was never an apology of any kind.

"I deplore Atty. Roy's lack of delicadeza and his cynical attempt to twist a simple exchange of pleasantries and use it for his and his client's political gains," Cayetano explained.

Sen. Cayetano also called on Atty. Roy to refrain from muddling circumstances surrounding the issues of the Disbursement Acceleration Program (DAP). He also stated that the Senate is in RIP (reveal, investigate, and prosecute) mode, and that issuing false statements will not do anything to help solve the issue.

"Bottom line here is that Corona was found guilty by the Senate impeachment court because of his unexplained/undeclared wealth and he should be prosecuted for such crimes," the senator said.
