MANILA, Philippines (UPDATE 1) - A too ill Gloria Macapagal Arroyo will no longer visit her parents' graves tomorrow despite an earlier nod from the Sandiganbayan.
The former President, who is at the Veterans’ Memorial Medical Center (VMMC) on hospital arrest, is supposedly too sick to rise from her bed.
Anacleto Diaz, Mrs. Arroyo's counsel for the plunder case, issued the following statement Wednesday: "We regret that the former president will not be able to visit her parents at the Libingan ng mga Bayani on Nov 1. And thanks the Sandiganbayan for allowing her to do so."
"She has not been feeling well and has been advised to avoid the additional stress of going to and from the cemetery."
The Sandiganbayan released on Wednesday morning a resolution granting her a six-hour stay at the Libingan ng mga Bayani.
The anti-graft court set six conditions, including an escort from the Philippine National Police. Arroyo will shoulder all expenses that will be incurred by the PNP, however.
She was also asked to post a P1 million cash bond. Lawyer Ferdinand Topacio said the last he heard from Arroyo’s camp is that they are still trying to raise the P1 million bond.– with reports from Dennis Datu, dzMM
