PNoy washes hands of OWWA case
SYDNEY, AUSTRALIA-President Aquino declined to comment on the decision of the Ombudsman to dismiss a graft case filed against former President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo over the alleged misuse and transfer of over P540 million of Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA) funds in 2003.
The President said it was not the government that filed the case.
He said Labor Secretary Rosalinda Baldoz, who was also co-accused as then OWWA administrator, has adequately explained her side.
"Without talking on the merits of the case talagang diyan palagay ko hindi kami kailangang sumagot dahil hindi kami ang nag-file. So tandaan ninyo ang instructions sa atin, ano, sa ating Department of Justice primarily don't file cases unless the evidence is strong," he said.
The case stemmed from a complaint filed with the Department of Justice (DOJ) by former Solicitor General Frank Chavez, who accused Arroyo of using the funds for her presidential campaign in 2004.
